lockd(1M) lockd(1M) NAME lockd - network lock daemon SYNOPSIS /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd [-l log_file] [-t timeout] [-g graceperiod] DESCRIPTION lockd is an RPC server that processes NFS file locking requests from the local kernel or from another remote lock daemon. lockd forwards lock requests for remote data to the server site's lock daemon through the RPC/XDR package (see rpc(3N)). lockd then requests the status monitor daemon, statd for monitor service (see statd(1M)). The reply to the lock request is not sent to the kernel until the status daemon and the server site's lock daemon have replied. If either the status monitor or server site's lock daemon is unavailable, the reply to a lock request for remote data is delayed until all daemons become available. When a server recovers, it waits for a grace period for all NFS client-site lockds to submit reclaim requests. Client-site lockds are notified by the statd of the server recovery, and promptly resubmit previously granted lock requests. If a lockd fails to secure a previously granted lock at the server site, the lockd sends a SIGLOST to the process holding that lock. Options lockd recognizes the following options and command-line arguments: -l log_file Log any errors to the named log file log_file. Errors are not logged if the -l option is not specified. Information logged to the file includes date and time of the error, host name, process ID and name of the function generating the error, and the error message. -t timeout lockd uses timeout (seconds) as the interval instead of the default value (10 seconds) to retransmit a lock request to the remote server. Note that changing this value also changes the value for grace period duration. -g graceperiod lockd uses [1+(graceperiod/timeout)]xtimeout (seconds) as the grace period duration instead of the default value (5xtimeout seconds). If both -t and -g are specified, the -t should appear first since the grace period duration is dependent on the value of timeout.
