Hi All,

I using the following command “relocatepd” to move over some PD, has anybody some experience with this command?

The issue i have is that if I try to move a disk;
Relocatepd start –f 0:9-2:11
I getting the following message back.
Cage 0 and cage 2 are not the same cage type.

Its I an 7200 and cage 0 is also the controller cage. And therefore its different with cage 1,2 and 3.

Do someone now a work around or a fix how I could move over this PD.

output showcage

Id Name LoopA Pos.A LoopB Pos.B Drives Temp RevA RevB Model Side
0 cage0 1:0:1 0 0:0:1 0 18 18-32 3219 3219 DCN1 n/a
1 cage1 1:0:2 1 0:0:2 0 16 19-33 3219 3219 DCS2 n/a
2 cage2 1:0:1 1 0:0:1 1 8 19-34 3219 3219 DCS2 n/a
3 cage3 1:0:2 0 0:0:2 1 6 31-34 3219 3219 DCS2 n/a

thanks a lot
Johan

relocatepd isn't documented, you'll need to talk to Support.

Are you trying to physically move a PD to the other cage? Why?

If you have spare disks, you can copy the chunklets.

Hello Dennis,

I know, cant find mush about it unfortunatly.

Yes trying to meve PD thats why i need this comand, simple reason for its as we have curent 4 cages and al disks ar in the first two cages so need to be spread out over the rest of the cages so they are poplated eaqual.

Its a sceliton test box thats why we need to move it it's not an option just to buy more disks.

Johan

Raised a call to HP. received the following answer. I am not satisfied on it and would like to now a deep dive. Keep you posted, if someone has a better explanation please let me now.

The “relocatepd” cannot be performed in the manner described in the case as the types of cages are not compatible or the same type of cage, however on deeper inspection I found the following prerequisites needed to perform a “relocatepd” command:

The target disk must exist in the specified source cage and slot

The destination cage and slot must be valid and unoccupied

The source and destination cages must be compatible

For same-node relocation, the destination must not reduce the HA level

For multi-node relocation, the destination must not cause remote I/O

In your case the command failed when the system reached the #3 check, so if you are able to resolve this the “relocatepd” command should complete ok.

Yes, HP 3PAR Rebalance Service would be an option.

just to give you some back ground 3par is in a test environment and i don’t want to spend money for doing some movements of disks that i could do myself.

this gives me the opportunity to learn.

if it was an production environment i would not hesitated and make sure a HP engineer do this trick.

Hi All,

I had contact with one of the product managers of 3par.

He reached out to some colleagues and confirm that it was a bug. In the next major release this will be fixed.

Also he waits for a possible workaround, if I know more I will post it.

cheers

Hi Guys,

Johan is/was right.. seems to be a bug in 3.2.1MU2... We had the same issue relocating drives from a DCN1 to a DCS2 cage.. (Cage with nodes and a simple M6710)...

We flashed the Array to 3.2.1MU3 and now relocatepd works like a charm....

Takes a loooooooong time though...

Regards,

Henry
