Quorum Witness error

Hi, I am getting error in 3PAR quorum witness server that quorum server unreachable. This is very frequent. How can I fix this?

Hello @Jonnycoel,

This seems to be an intermittent error.

Please follow the below commands to restart the Quorum Witness server:
showrcopy -qw targets To view the status of quorum witness
setrcopytarget witness check <QW IP> To Verify connectivity to the quorum witness
setrcopytarget witness stop <target_name> To stop the quorum
setrcopytarget witness start <target_name> To start the quorum
showrcopy -qw targets To view the status of quorum witness

Let me know how it goes after the above steps.

sbhat, I did the steps you suggested. The error was stopped. But again got the error a few minutes ago.

Here are the further steps to restart the Quorum Witness server that would help to avoid the frequent occurrence of the error:

showrcopy -qw targets To view the status of quorum witness
setrcopytarget witness stop <target_name> To stop the quorum
setrcopytarget witness remove <target_name> To remove a quorum witness
setrcopytarget witness check <IP of Quorum Witness> Verify connectivity to the quorum witness
setrcopytarget witness create <IP of Quorum Witness> <target_name> To add a quorum witness to a target
showrcopy -qw targets To view the status of a created quorum witness

Thanks. Are these steps safe to run when replication is going on? Will that cause failover and any other disruption?

Hi @Jonnycoel,

You can restart the QW server by sequentially running those commands. That will not cause any disruption (failover, stop etc.) to Remote Copy. Those commands are safe and tested before.

Sbhat, Error stopped after executing the commands yesterday. Is that the permanent fix?

Hi,

That is the temporary fix. That will help you to reduce the frequency of QW error. YOu can keep those commands handy and run them anytime if QW error starts. That will not harm the QW or ongoing replication.

For permanent fix, you can improvise the network resources to QW or upgrade the QW to v3.0.014 (Currently if you are on 2.x versions)
