Hi 3PARNewb,

Yes, the HPE 3PAR 8400 storage system does indeed come with built-in data encryption features.
Without requiring a separate license, it supports data-at-rest encryption.
Data saved on the physical drives of the HPE 3PAR 8400 system can be encrypted using this native encryption function, adding an extra layer of security to your data.

The HPE 3PAR system manages the encryption keys, and the encryption procedure is transparent to the host accessing the data.
You can set up encryption at different levels, such as the volume or virtual volume level, enabling you to safeguard particular data sets as required.

It is crucial to remember that to guarantee the integrity and secrecy of the encryption keys, effective key management and security procedures should be used.
For handling encryption keys in the HPE 3PAR system, HPE offers recommendations and best practices.

Refer to the below URL for HPE 3PAR Encryption licenses:

URL - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04807268&docLocale=en_US&page=GUID-6B98A5A0-25C6-482B-9D8D-8CEB5F338E3C.html

Do get back to us, if you need further help.

Regards,
Satish

Hi 3PARNewb,

Yes, there is a way to validate native encryption running on an HPE 3PAR storage system using "controlencryption status".

Please refer to the below URL for the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage Command Line Interface reference guide.

URL - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=c04204279

If you don't have the Data at Rest Encryption license installed on your HPE 3PAR system, it means that the native encryption feature is not available for use.
The Data at Rest Encryption license is required to enable and utilize encryption capabilities on the HPE 3PAR system.

Without the license, you won't have access to the necessary tools and settings to validate or configure native encryption on the HPE 3PAR system.
If you are enabling encryption for your storage, you would need to contact HPE Tech support to inquire about why the Data at Rest Encryption license is not built-in and discuss the process of obtaining and installing it on your system.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Satish
