Hi guys!

I have one 3par with disk NL, FC and SSD.

All Volumes are Commonly Provisioned VV (CPVV): It is a thick device with snapshots.

I need create policy for local snapshots every 6 hours with 48h expiration.
Then a synchronous copy in another 3pair and in parallel an asynchronous copy to this same 3pair every 48h

How I can calculate estimate space need for do it?
on principal 3par and 3par´s replicate

Regards!

Hi Elfegume,

To calculate the estimated space needed for the local snapshots and replication in your HPE 3PAR environment,
you need to consider various factors such as snapshot frequency, retention period, snapshot delta size, and replication data.

Please follow the below step-by-step procedure to estimate the space requirements:

Calculate Local Snapshots Space:
This is the difference in space between two consecutive snapshots. Calculate the space needed for each local snapshot based on the average snapshot delta size. Determine the snapshot frequency (every 6 hours) and the retention period (48 hours). Multiply the space needed for each local snapshot by the number of snapshots in the retention period to get the total space needed for local snapshots.

Calculate Synchronous Replication Space:
Determine the size of the volumes you are replicating. Consider the replication overhead, which includes metadata and delta changes during replication.
Calculate the space needed for synchronous replication based on the volume size and replication overhead.

Calculate Asynchronous Replication Space:
Similar to synchronous replication, determine the size of the volumes you are replicating and consider replication overhead.
Calculate the space needed for asynchronous replication based on the volume size and replication overhead.

Add Up the Space Requirements:
Sum up the space needed for local snapshots, synchronous replication, and asynchronous replication to get the total estimated space needed.
Keep in mind that space requirements may vary depending on data changes, compression, and deduplication ratios in your environment.
It is essential to monitor and analyze storage usage regularly to ensure you have enough capacity to accommodate snapshots and replication.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Satish
