I upgraded one of our vCenters with the new patch after seeing the security bulletins, and now the Nimble plugin won't reinstall. I tired removing and reinstalling it when the auto install failed, and got the same error.

@TrevorH Your post caused me to look closely at my environment and I noticed the same HPE Multi-array Storage Plug-in failure - HOWEVER I have NOT yet upgraded vCenter to 7.0 U3r, so there must be some other combination of factors in play here. I upgraded to VCSA 7.0 U3q on 6/4/2024 but I honestly did not notice or look for the plugin-failure at that time - but it clearly shows in a failed state now.

My details:

vCenter VCSA 7.0 U3q 7.0.3.01900 build 23788036 2024-05-21
HPE Multi-array Storage Plug-in for VMware vCenter 6.1.21048557.0
Failed: Error deploying plug-in. java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot convert value of type 'java.lang.String' to required type 'com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.PropertyNamingStrategy' for property 'propertyNamingStrategy': no matching editors or conversion strategy found org.springframework.beans.TypeConverterDelegate.convertIfNecessary(TypeConverterDelegate.java:262)

Current Nimble array software version: 6.1.2.400-1048557-opt, which I appliend on 5/21 and I'm almost 100% certain that the plugin was working after that. But I do note that there IS a new General Availability version released mid-May I've not yet applied: 6.1.2.500-1053701-opt 2024-05-13 22:00. I'll have to install that and see if it includes a new VCSA plugin version.

Is it possible this plugin failure is more directly related to something in the PREVIOUS version of vCenter, v 7.0 U3q? @TrevorH what version of VCSA were you coming from when you upgraded to 7.0 U3r and noticed this failure?

I was previously on U3o 22357613. I had also updated the Nimble firmware to 6.1.2.500-1053701-opt on June 11.

At another location, I have identical hardware. The vCenter there is still on U3o with the most recent Nimble firmware, but the plugin version reported is different than yours - 6.1.11020304.0. It's showing no errors, but I hadn't thought to check on the plugin after the Nimble upgrade, so maybe it's still using the version from the previous firmware (6.1.1.300-1028597-opt).

I can confirm, updated vCenter yesterday to 7.0 U3r (7.0.3.02000) per Broadcom's security builletin and it broke my Nimble Plugin with the same/similar error message.. Removing/re-adding the plug-in does nothing. OS version on the Alletra 5010 is 6.1.2.500-1053701-opt (latest).

The error I keep receiving:

I have an active case open with support for another issue and I brought this up as well, if they provide a fix, I'll report back.

The update from HPE is that they're aware of the issue and the fix is to either upgrade to vCenter 8 as this issue does not occur with that version OR if an upgrade is not feasible at this time, you can remain on 7.0 U3r+ and you can call support so they can apply a backend fix. The fix, at the moment, is not persistent and is lost when Nimble OS upgrades occur.

All of the following is from HPE support:

This looks to be related to bug we are tracking under AS-186023 as a result of VMware change in the manner of plugin isolation in vCenter version 7.0u3q+. There is no implemented fix at this time but we do have a workaround that we can apply to array if they are on an array OS version version 6.1.1.x and later which is the case here.

The workaround generally resolves the plug in issue, it is non-disruptive but I will need to restart the jetty service on the array after applying the workaround which will make the GUI inaccessible for a minute or two. Data I/O is not affected by this. Once workaround is in place you will need to re-register the plugin as mentioned prior by uncheck and then save, then re-check the Web Client checkbox and save under Administration > VMware Integration.

Please note the workaround does not persist through future NimbleOS updates so if fix is not implemented by then workaround would need to be re-applied. Currently it does not appear to impact vCenter 8 and later as utilizes plugin isolated mode fully.

We now have the same problem and after I replaced the cert on my vcsa this error started coming up on the 5.2.1882343.0 verson of the plug in with

@bkeller1 - This has to do with how plugin integrations are handled in newer vCenter 7.x releases, and there is an HPE Advisory a00142228en_us for this issue. Basically, your options are to perform one or more of the following, listed from least to most invasive::

Contact Nimble support, enable Secure Tunnel on your array(s), and ask them to apply the known workaround to the array group and they will reregister the HPE Multi-array Storage Plug-in for VMware vCenter for you. Note: you will have to repeat this after EVERY vCenter 7.x upgrade unless you perform the second and/or third options below.
Upgrade your array(s) to NimbleOS 6.1.2.502 <<<version edited per @TrevorH post below> or later (current latest release is 6.1.2.700 Apr 15, 2025) which I believe will automatically reregister the HPE Multi-array Storage Plug-in for VMware vCenter
Ugrade your vCenter to version 8.x and manually reregister the HPE Multi-array Storage Plug-in for VMware vCenter

Just for clarification, that should be 6.1.2.502.
