Volume Collection vs Protection Template

I am new to NS, we have C1000 array. I am no clear about the Volume collection and Protection Template. a little idea about Volume-Collection is use for Snapshots, but what is protection templete?

can i use VC for Virtual volumes? and how can i use protection template.

Volume Collections are a snapshot/replication/retention policy that you apply to one or many volumes (ideally, an application).

Protection Templates are where you can create templates on which snapshot/replication/retention policies can be defined as templates, from which you can deploy Volume Collections from.
