Thank you for the reply. Is there any issues with replacing the existing drives with larger capacity drives? I've seen other information stating any drives being replaced would need to be identical to the ones being removed.

We have an HF20 with 21x1TB drives and 6x480GB SSD cache. I'm trying to figure out the feasability of upgrading the main drives to ones with a larger capacity. There is no data on the array as its never been used. Is it possible to replace drives one at a time and have the OS replicate or can all the drives be replaces and the OS reinstalled?

Hello,

Usually, the rebuild would take a while and causes slightly high latency due to the backed operations. In this case, it should not be a problem as you do not have any data in the array.

There is no option to reinstall the OS, it has to be a re-image, which takes a while, involving loading the ISO file (which we provide) in to USB sticks and booting controllers from it (arrays running 6.0 and above No USB are needed). Also, the array re-setup needs to be done, configuring IP address, subnets, and interfaces etc. I would not suggest doing it, infact reimage is not really needed.

You may replace two drives at a time, issue disk --list from CLI, once the status of newly replaced disks changes to online, you may proceed with next set. (This is to prevent DSD service from being stopped, as multiple disks going offline would be considered as inconsistent RAID set)
