i am not sure if i understod the Virtual Pool concept correct:

We have a 2050 with 2 Controllers
a pool per controller (more is not possible)
2 disk groups per pool

i want to add 6 disks for performance testing
and not to increase storage. is this possible ?
i am not sure ...

i know that the productive load influences my testing.
i would like to try it, without any side effect to the existing storage,
except the additional load ...

THX, Mario

Hi Mario,

You would be able to add a new disk group using six drives in either Pool A or Pool B.

However, the data will be shared between old and new disk groups automatically as soon as a disk group is added to the Pool. The data is spread across the all the disk groups in virtual Pool.

Note: The Performance Tier license is required to create a virtual disk group comprised of SSDs for use as a Performance tier

If your plan is to add a new disk group and to just test performance of that specific disk group, its not possible in MSA 2050 as the new disk group becomes a part of Pool A or Pool B once you add it.

MSA 2050 SMU guide is a good place to start for virtual Pool concepts:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00017707en_us

My Problem is solved and not solved.

The MSA2050 cant do things , which were no problem on the MSA2040 or MSA2000

Usually a new system has more power and more functionality as an older system,

sory for this words / opinion ...

Mario
