Active Controller

Hi, I want to change the active controller in an MSA1000. In the command CLI I write this command:
set this_controller active.

The result is not correct. I read in the documentation and explain this command:

set this_controller ID.

What command must I use.

i havent seen a command, that can change the active controller. Isnt the only way to move the active controller through you Multipahsoftware like SecurePath (Move to other controller)?!

Well, but if I haven't Secure Path. I read the MSA's documentatios and it explain this commad, but when I excuted the response was not OK.

i read the cli guide to and there is no command for changing the active controller. The only thing you can do is to disable the stdby. controller.

The options for set are:
Possible command nouns for the given verb: 'set'
unit_id this_controller this_controller_id
other_controller other_controller_id globals
acl connection prompt
unit this_controller_hard_addressdebug
Specify command noun: other_controller_id

why do you have two controllers when you dont have a multipath software?

Yes I have Secure Path. But

In the MSA's book reference to the certification, explain this command an says that you can change the active controller.

Do you know it?

Well in the book "inplementing MSA Storage Solutions" ref. CSG20736SG0412, rev. 4.41 in the module 8, pag 27. And says:

"In dual-controller deployments, the MSA 1000 supports an active/stanby configuration where one of two controllers proccess all commands and the other controllers is during failover. The failover process enables the standby controller to assume control of the storgae subsystem when the active controller fails.

This commands to change the status of a controller include:
SET THIS_CONTROLLER/OTHER_CONTROLLER ACTIVE
SET THIS_CONTROLLER/OTHER_CONTROLLER STANDBY
"

Probably it means that this command is enable when a failover produces.

What do you think about it?

hmm maybe its the command that the controller internal does when a failover happens.

sorry but i dont have any other information.
what you could try is connect a server to the serial port and do the following:
"set debug on". After that you get the output of the controller on you Terminalemulation. Maybe you can do a failover now by plug a controller out and see what is coming up on the console.

Pulling an arbitrary controller _can_ cause the other to hang - don't try this on daddy's mission critical system...
