topic HPE MSA 2060 Flash Cache Tuning in MSA Storage

In one of the RFP sheet for HPE MSA 2060 there is this line "Offered Flash cache shall be tuned for random read operations and shall remain activated even at less than 70% of random average read workload". I am trying to locate the required documentations for this but with no luck. Can any one share the documentations justifying this claim? This is required for clarifying to customer.

Thanks in advance.

I have checked all publicly avaialble MSA resources, but the information is not available in any of them. Can anyone help with this? This is for a tender clarification where if we are not able to provide documentary evidence, will be disqualified.

Hi Raju, "Flash Cache could mean either ‘Performance Tiering’ or ‘SSD Read Cache’. Both are modes of operation for the automated tiering engine where ‘Performance Tiering’ provides the pool with capacity using SSDs and accelerates random writes, while SSD does not offer capacity and only accelerates random reads.Performance tiering will promote pages from the pool to SSD based on their frequency and type of access whereas SSD Read Cache will copy pages to SSD. The criteria for page promotion is the same, random read, not sequential. Of course, in the case of SSD Read Cache only reads are accounted for so in that way it is ‘tuned’, but really it comes down to the capacity of the SSDs. SSD Read Cache can be up to 4TB whereas a Performance Tier can be up to the entire capacity of the pool.Whichever mode you choose, I think it’s a pass as there’s no discrimination in terms of read/write ratios, they are both ‘always on’. However, sequential I/O will never hit SSD unless using Performance Tiering and all other capacity in the pool is exhausted or by chance if the page(s) was previously accessed randomly. You’ll find these resources useful:Virtual Storage YouTube video (Gen5 and Gen6 work the same): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyCwUYKkJQQ&ab_channel=HewlettPackardEnterpriseGen6 Virtual Storage reference guide: https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00103247enw"
