topic MSA2060 Storage performance in MSA Storage

Hi all,

We have 2 X MSA2060 storage devices.

Both have the identical setup, each MSA has:

10 X 10K SAS 2.4TB (12Gb/s interface) -> Configured in Raid 6. 1 Pool of 19.1TB

We currently have replication software that uses the both MSA's for replication. When the software does a full sync, we can see the sync starts fast but almost goes to a grinding halt. I am trying to determine if the MSA storage is the cause of this or if it is the replication software.

Source of replication.

Destination of replication

Any help in understanding the performance the MSA2060 can deliver and if the MSA2060 is the root cause would be very helpfull and appreciated.

Best Regards,

Guy

Re: MSA2060 Storage performance

Hi,

First thing to check is whether the controller and disk drive firmware is latest.
Older version controller firmware prior to IN210R004 had few glitches that could lead to IO stall in rare scenarios and performance issues.

You could upload MSA store logs in below web link to verify the general array health status and firmware versions:

https://msa.ext.hpe.com/

The disk group seems to be already configured as per power of 2 best practices which gives optimal sequqntial performance.

You could verify from the fibre channel or iscsi network end (based on controller type) for any packet drops or network issues.

Its not clear whether you are using embedded MSA hardware level replication or any replication software at operating system end.

MSA remote snap initial replication would usually be quite slow depending on the distance between the arrays and the load on the volumes from host server end. Host IOs will get priority over replication traffic.

It would be good to log an HPE support case to review the MSA debug logs for any issues.
