Modify Volume (Expansion) Warning message

I have MS2050 SAN and multipule volumes been created for Data store, OS store, Backup ...etc attached to VM cluster. Now the Date Store is almost full and while modifying the volume I see the popup warning message and Im worried this will cause an issue or something wrong will cause to the Data Store volume.

The warning message indicates that your activity may exceed the available physical storage, which might cause operational issues.
To resolve this issue, you may delete the unwanted and duplicate files to free up space and configure the threshold alerts, which will provide information about space before reaching threshold values.
In order to reduce the overcommitment problem, you should be able to increase the capacity of your datastore by adding more physical disks.

Hi,

MSA 2050 supports thin provisioning and over commit.

For example, even though physical capacity of the Pool is only around 1TB, the array will allow you to create volumes of total capacity greater than 1TB.

This feature helps with future expansion requirements.

You could add more disk groups to increase Pool capacity as and when the Pool usage reaches 99-100%.

The alert that you have received just indicates that the new volume creation will exceed the physical capacity of the Pool.

If the Pool has enough free space, you could go ahead and create a new volume.

You could execute the command: show pools to check the free space in the Pool.

You just need to ensure that the Pool usage never exceeds the high threshold (around 200GB free space needed)
