XEON in SVSP Data Path Module ?

Hello!

I had a look at the LSI / HP SVSP product.

I understand that you need two SVSP-Management Servers x86 with FC-HBA and two DPM (Data Path Modules)

If you look at the specs you see a XEON 2.8Ghz and 2GB system memory for the DPM.

But why? Does the XEON handels the FC traffic?
And why do I need a management appliance when a XEON on the device is in place?

I fear the the XEON handles the FC traffic and not a ASIC like in FC-Switches.

Please comment.

Hi Chris

the Xeon is for programming the ASIC and managing communications with the VSM servers

this is a split path architecture so the control is separated from the normal I/O.

Is XEON required? A Opteron Blade cant handle this?
