Thanks Mark. I assume it's the standard 9600,n,8,1 with hyperterm or teraterm or whatever? I'll have to dig out some docs and figure out the CLI... sounds fun!

We had a drive go bad in our MSA2012i after 6 months, the hot spare picked up normally and rebuilt. However I can no longer connect to the web interface of the SAN -- Internet Explorer displays a "page cannot be displayed" error even though the page title (on the browser window) displays the HP MSA2012i title. I've never had a problem connecting to the SAN web interface before using IE 6 or 7.

Is there a way to do a warm boot of the MSA? Otherwise the only think I can think of is a cold reset which I'd prefer not to do.

If the network interface of the controllers are not responding then you can connect up the serial interface and connect to the CLI.

You can then use the restart command to restart the management controller only.

restart sc|mc a|b|both

sc|mc - Specifies the controller to restart:
* sc: Storage Controller
* mc: Management Controller

a|b|both - Specifies whether to restart controller A, controller B, or both.

noprompt - Optional. Suppresses the confirmation prompt.

Actually I was able to telnet in over the LAN and reset the management interface, and things are working fine now. Thanks for your help!

I was originally going to suggest telnet but I thought if the web interface had hung it might have taken out all network access. Which is what has happened to me on a couple of occasions with different client systems.

Glad you got it going again.

Hi,

In our case we cannot connect to the device at all. All VM Machines seem to work as usual. We have tried http, ssh and even CLI (Serial).

We cannot restart anything.

Is the only way to (hard) shutdown the device ??

Thanks for suggestions...

gr,

Willem
