i want config a MSA G3 FC SAN but have a problem

when i turn on a SAN 16 Hard drive LED is green but 8 hard drive is amber

and in the SMU i dident see any this 8 drive

how config this SAN

Have the 8 drives ever been used in anything else?
They might still have a config on them...

Do the drives show up as LEFTOVER in SMU or do you not see them at all?

i inserted a 24 hard drive in MSA for First one and when i turn on this san even 16 hard Disk is recognize in SMU and 8 HARD Disk is amber .i change a plase this hard dirive with other and no happen.just change plase amber hard

no see this drive in anything and no any data or config

do i spechialist config???

Sounds like you might have a problem with the backplane on the last 8 slots then.

I'd raise a warranty case with HP...

no any problem because first this 8 drive distributed in 24 slot i reject and reconfigure with 16 slat and inserted 8 drive in 8 last module

Hi,

As you have already checked by swapping the hadrdrive with others which are working fine and those drives lit up gree in last 8 slots also then its not the problem with drives. its with backplane.

Also what is the status if you put last 8 amber drives in first 16 slots? Does they still remain amber or gree?

Hi,

The drives which are installed came when you bought this MSA or you bought them somewhere else.

As first 16 drives are of Vendor ModusLnk and Teleplan and 8 drives in last says "Unknown"

Just cross referenced your part number 599476-003 and that is the Assembly number for the correct drives (581286-B21)

Can you tell us the Spare part number please?

Should be printed on the front of the drive and should be 581311-001

I think there should also be an HP hologram on each drive to prove it is genuine.

Have you tried updating the firmware of the controllers?

According to what I found the product should be 581286-B21, the spare581311-001, but the assembly might be 599476-003, but these are EG0600FB*** models.

Somehow I doubt you have original hp parts in your box and he controller don't know how to handle them.

In your management web interface go to firmware update, this will list the firmware of the drives.

Could be good to see this list.
