The MSA1000 has a total of 4 SCSI channels. Channel 1 goes to bay 1-7 and channel 2 goes to bay 8-14 of the base model. Channels 3+4 are used for external enclosures - either one MSA30 DB or two MSA30 SB.

The number of controllers does not influence the number of external disk drive enclosures, because both controllers have access to channels 1-4 anyway.

Now, you have an MSA30 DB, which is a dual-bus enclosure. Bus A connects to channel 3 and bus B connects to channel 4. That means you cannot add a second external enclosure, but it has nothing to do with the number of controller modules in the base unit.

We just got a new MSA1000 with the HA upgrade kit.
Also got a MSA30 DB to connect to the MSA1000 for more storage.

Can someone clarify for my boss that we can use an additional MSA30 on the second scsi channel. He seems to believe dual controllers on the MSA1000 means we can only utilize 1 additional enclosure instead of 2.

Thanks for you time...
