Hi ,

I recently purchased MSA20 for Clustering 2 HP servers, which later I came to find out that MSA20 does bot support shared disks.

I would like to know which MSA to buy which supports shared disks, and probably in which I can use the same hard disks.

Please assist.

Thank you

hi,

you're probably looking at an msa60 if you want to re-use the disks , see here :-

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/disk_storage/msa_diskarrays/drive_enclosures/index.html

hth

The MSA30MI (Multi Initiator) uses a special I/O module that allows shared access from multiple HP-UX servers (if that was meant by "2 HP Serves").

For x86, you need a different technology like SAS, Fibre Channel or iSCSI.
I am using Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for the two HP DL380 servers. And it is installed with HP 6402 smart array controller, which has SCSI connectors. .

I need alternate MSA solution which support SCSI connections and probably if I am able to use the same MSA30 hard disks. To avoid extra costs.

Please help.

Thanks

Sorry, no support for clustering on parallel SCSI interconnects.

And you can't use this type of backplane RAID-controllers for clustering:
- can't turn off the termination
-- you now have 3: SA-1, SA-2, MSA
- can't change the SCSI address of one of the controllers

If you can get your hands on a MSA500 G2, you can use the MSA30 disks and the Smart Array controller with it.
It's a shared storage that's accessed through SCSI.

Ohter MSAs like MSA1000, 1500 and 2000 are acessed through FC or iSCSI.
