topic MAS 2000 Controller Question in MSA Storage

Hi all,

I have a dual controller MSA2000fc g1, attached to a 2nd enclosure (each controller is attached to it). The MSA is attached to a windows server by fibre only from controller A (not best practice I know)
My question is if a controller fails, is my data lost or if I replace the controller will it be ok. Or what is the procedure I would need to follow

Thanks

The data will not be lost, but the server cannot access it if this controller has failed.

Other data stored in the controller (mappings etc) are also stored in the second controller.

Why not using a redundant connection?

Hi Thanks for your reply,

I have only just joined the company and this is how its setup!!

So just to clairfy if controller A (attached to server) fails, server cant access the data but once a new controller is inserted access will be resumed once it initializes etc?

If controller B fails will server still be able to access the data, im assuming it should?

What happens if both controllers fail? is all data lost then?

Sorry for all the questions im just new to this.

Thanks Again

If this is really a MSA2000 G1 you can safe the configuration to a file, please do this.

Your assumptions are correct.

If both controllers will fail for whatever reason, data remains on disks, some config data in the controllers may be lost, but you have a record of the configuration.

Controller Failure in Single Controller Environment or Dual Controller Failure does not lead to Data Loss Situation.

The Block level data as well as the Configuration is stored on the Disk Drives. However, in MSA 2000 G1 you have an option to save the Configuration to avoid chaos situations.

1. Log into the SMU

2. Select Manage → Utilities → Configuration Utilities → Save Config File
