Hi everybody!

Let me list my setup...

2 DL 380 G4
1 MSA 1000
8* 72,8 GB drives in a RAID 1+0
2 2/8 EL switches

On the servers:
Windows 2000 Enteprise (Clustered)
Service Pack 3
SupportPaq 7.10A
Secure Path 4.0C
MSA Support Software v6.51.02
Virtual Replicator 3.0B SP1

On the MSA 1000
Redundant controllers with firmware 4.32
Array with 8 * 72.8 GB drives in a RAID 1+0

The problem...

I've extended the Array with 4 new 72,8 GB drives. I've also expanded the logical disk with the added capacity. All this is done with ACU.

To maximize the free space I've decreased the "minimumfreepool" value to 5%, since the customer dont use the snapshots anymore.

And Yes I've rebooted the systems... (-:

When I check in VR the amount of free space for volume growth incresed sligthly, probably because of the changed registryvalue.

Why cant I see the added diskcapacity, it should be about 142 GB more free space...

Any ideas???

Sincerly
Dragomir

I haven't kept up with the features of the latest versions of VR, but I am fairly sure that you are not allowed to extend the size of an existing storage unit in that version. You rather have to create a new storage unit and add it to the pool.

Hi Uwe!

OK! So I messed up...

Is there a way to recover the space that wont require restoring all the data?

I am afraid, not, sorry.

I have never heard that the MSA can shrink a logical disk and/or allows the safe removal of a physical disk drive from a disk array.
