topic MSA 2040 Host Name Problem in MSA Storage

Hello,

we just updated to the newest Firmware on our MSA2040fc SAN.

As a new feature we saw that we can build host groups now.

As we would like to use the this feature, we started looking into this. The Problem is that our Hostnames are Empty (attached image)

Could this be a configuration problem on the HBA Apdaters as i cannot create hostsgroups without hostnames it seems?

We can give the initators nicknames as seen in the image but that's about it. The Nickname feature was called "Host Name" in the older firmware before which makes this even more confusing. In the overview we can see that we do have 10 iniators and 0 Hosts which of course is not true.

We do have 3 ESX and 2 Backup-Hosts with 2 HBA Ports each which are connected to 2 HP (Brocade) FC Switches which again are connected to our 2 MSAs.

I need to read about this feature, but I'm sure you need to input the hostname manually on the msa (like you did in command view eva), because the array cannot get the hostname over fibre.

>because the array cannot get the hostname over fibre.

Perhaps not on MSA but the HPE 3PAR has a host agent to get this info.

From SMU user guide:

To create a host, enter a name for the host in the Host Select field.

...

Host. Shows the host name if the initiator is grouped into a host; otherwise, -nohost-.

...

You need to manually give the host entry a name.

You may group several initiators of the same server to a host and add hosts with same mappings to a host group (e.g. all servers of a cluster).
