It's always best to use L&TT http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools to pull a support ticket and attach it with questions like this.

At first glance it sounds like the drive isn't able to calibrate so it marks the media as incompatible. Cleaning a few times might help. The support ticket should show more information.

The unit seems to be fading away. 3 months ago, slots 6-8 stopped loading cartridges causing backups to fail. Recently, slots 1 - 5 have also stopped. Using BackupExec 12, the job begins, watching the tape drive, the window shows the following sequence
1) Prepositioning
2) Inserting
3) Parking
4) Drive Loading
5) Inserting
6) Drive Loading
7) Inserting
8) Drive Loading
9) Finally, an amber Media attention light with as "!" displayed under the slot the job uses.

This happens now in every slot, and tried 3 different brand new tapes, and 2 tapes recently used before.
