If the lib is connected to a switch, did you adjust the zoning? Has the server a FC connection to this switch? Is there a zone for the server and the lib?

HP MSL 2024 Tape Library

I have MSL 2024 Tape Library, I have attached it to my switch using the FC, My backup software is Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2012 R2, running on Server 2012 R2. All installed on an X1600 Storage. (Currently doing backup to disk).

I am having challenges in having my Storage and DPM see the Tape Library, anyone who has a similiar environment, please assist. I will provide more details if needed. I should have this up and running at the soonest.

Kind regards,

First check the firmware of library and drive:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5111557&swItemId=co_140642_1&swEnvOid=4064#tab2

You did not tell what drive you have.

I did update the firmware to this one 'MSL2024_6.20.frm'.

What I need is actually how i can configure it in Windows so that the OS can see it and then configure DPM 2012 R2 to start backing up to the tapes. I have set up IP Addressing on it successfully.

Kind regards,

Please advice also, do I necessarily need a Fiber Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA) on the X1600 Storage Server which I have installed DPM on? Your assistance is highly valuable.

Kind regards,

How did you connect the library at the moment?

The LAN port of the library is for management only. If the drive is fibre channel, you need a FC connection to the server (via switch or direct) of course.

The management LAN Port is fine, I have connected through using Fiber to direct to the Switch. The problem is getting my OS to see it. Should I use the WWNN? I have gone through some HP Bulletins but I get lost somehow. Thanks for your help once again.

There is no Zoning for both the Library and the Server. Should I use MPIO or iSCSI? Whats the best method for these devices?

Kind regards,
