Yes, I did try it ... removed network card,
FDD,HDD and SCSI but that didn't help much :(

I even tried to disable SCSI from ECU .. with no result. Something is messed up here.
Hallo,

I'm trying to reanimate an old dusting HP NetServer 5/66 LF. On boot time i have this:

PhoenixBIOS 4.02.18 PB
Copyright 1987-1993 Phoenix Technologies Ltd., All Right Reserved.

0000640K System RAM Passed
xxxxxxxK Extended RAM Passed
xxxxK Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: F7AD

and than hangs ...

I searched arround the world about this "UMB upper limit ..." message, but those replies contain no real matter.
I tried different memory modules ... without a chance.
I can't do anything about this. ~3 months ago it was able to boot without a problem.
Is there anything i could do to make it breath?

TIA,
/L

P.S. Sorry for posting the same message in two categories.

You can try and perform a clear CMOS. Follow these steps:

Power off the server.
Place switch 3 in the off position.
Power on server. Wait until the end of post.
Power off server.
Move switch back to on.
Power on server and boot to ECU.
Do a save and exit.

You can find the system board info here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpn12674&locale=en_US&taskId=8413&taskName=troubleshoot+a+problem&prodSeriesId=50446&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesName=hp+netserver+lf&docId=87445

Also, you can find the latest BIOS, ECU and drivers, here:
Thanx Theo,

that really helped, but now i have another issue. On boot time i get this:

hoenixBIOS 4.02.18 PB
Copyright 1987-1993 Phoenix Technologies Ltd., All Right Reserved.

CPU = Pentium 66 MHz
EISA Configuration NVRam Bad - Run Configuration Utility
0000640K System RAM Passed
xxxxxxxK Extended RAM Passed
xxxxK Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: F7AD
System CMOS checksum bad - run Configuration Utility

Error code(s): 1919 0202
To see an explanation of the errors, insert NetServer #1
diskette in drive A and press F1.
To continue without an explanation, just press F1.

I recall that there must be 3 disks: NetServer#1, NetServer#2 and NetServer Saver Test Disk.
The first two of them get lost. I have only the third one.
Is there a place I can download contents of those those two lost disks?
And one more thing how can I enter BIOS setup from that sceen to change some setting? ... cause I want desable IDE hard disk drive.

Thanx again for the reply,
You should be able to update the BIOS if you can boot to the ECU.

Hi again,

I'm confused .. something escapes me

As you suggested i made switch 3 off and power on. This is what i get after power on:

PhoenixBIOS 4.02.18 PB
Copyright 1987-1993 Phoenix Technologies Ltd., All Right Reserved.

CPU = Pentium 66 MHz
EISA Configuration NVRam Bad - Run Configuration Utility
0000640K System RAM Passed
xxxxxxxK Extended RAM Passed
xxxxK Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: F7AD
System CMOS checksum bad - run Configuration Utility

Error code(s): 1919 0202
To see an explanation of the errors, insert NetServer #1
diskette in drive A and press F1.
To continue without an explanation, just press F1.

At this moment I insert the first diskette and
press F1. It boots to configuration utility.
I can see what those errors mean and than perform an autoconfigure, save and exit.
Power off. Make switch 3 on and power on.
What i get is that it freezes at:

PhoenixBIOS 4.02.18 PB
Copyright 1987-1993 Phoenix Technologies Ltd., All Right Reserved.

CPU = Pentium 66 MHz
0000640K System RAM Passed
xxxxxxxK Extended RAM Passed
xxxxK Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: F7AD

here i can wait ad infinitum for any reaction.

Is any thing wrong what i did?

Thank you for your reply,
Even if I can boot to ECU , I can NOT perform a BIOS update because it complains about
"bad CMOS checksum ..."
After ECU's "Save and Exit" it hangs again at the
