i've got an HP ProlIant Microserver Gen8.

After some time internal storage of it became full. So i've got plans to install additional JBOD to it (DAS) with use of HP SmartArray p222 that compatible with Microserver Gen8. To minimize wiring i want to use an expander card in JBOD, but i can't find what product compatible with p222.

So, could somebody clarfy is 468406-B21 suitable for this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025ZQ16K?ie=UTF8&tag=servecom-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0025ZQ16K)?

Or maybe there is another compatible card?

>> To minimize wiring i want to use an expander card

With an expander card?

Likely not.

This card is usually used inside the server to connect multiple backplanes, so you wire controller -> sas expander -> backplanes

What do you want to minimize?

What JBOD do you have?

The P222 has 1 external and 1 internal port.

What JBOD do you have?

X-Case eXtra Value 424 (something like Norco)

What do you want to minimize?

my fault, not minimize, but simply connect p222 from external port to that JBOD with up to 24 backplaned HDD

Looks like an empty server chassis.

Question is, how many SAS connectors the backplane has?

EDIT:

Google told me

"The SGPIO Mini SAS backplane requires 6 8087-8087 cables to connect all 24 drives to your raid card."

The problem might be the (old) 6gb and the new 12gb sas expanders are not supported with every smart controller.

I can't find compatibility matrix on HP site... So, i asked here.

Maybe somebody tested p222 with old (gen6) HP expander card 468406-B21
