The best way I got my LH3 and LH4 servers to run their backups, was to create a bat file and schedule it to run through WINAT or just AT from a dos window. If you have NT Resource kit then you should be able to use WINAT. I get a lot of "cannot recongize meida" messages also. For that the only thing I can tell you is when you insert the tape, open the NTbackup utility and see if it gives you an error message at that point. It might not recognize the tapes you are using or you may have to format. I have found that the tapes are only good for a certain amount of uses then I have to get some new ones.

NTbackup

I am having a problem with using Ntbackup to do scheduled backups.
It is probably because I do know understand how it is handling "media"

Yestrday I setup an incremental back up job to rum at 6pm.

The message in the backup log was job canceled no media.

There was a tape in the drive.

What I would like to be able to do is
A full back up every friday with 4 differnt tapes so I have about a months worth.

And on another tape do inc backups Mon-Thursday on the same tape.

I have read the help but seem to be missing something.

Do it manually seems to work fine, it is just when I schedule it I have a problem.

Thank you for your time

Andre,

You might actually have to format the media to be able to append and overwrite. Check and see how the tapes are formatted and it might help.
Andre,

I ran into this same problem. You may need to manually prepare the tape. You do this by going under Computer Mgmt / Removable Storage / Physical Locations / "Your Tape Drive" / Media Right Click on the tape in the Right window and select prepare. You may need to dismount and unallocate first. Hope this helps.
