    <description>I can't remember the URL for the best answer to this, but this might help a bit. It is mostly about getting all of the RAM to recognize,  but one of the replies explains how to install the SMP kernel, which should help with your CPU failure.&lt;BR /&gt;

      <title>Linux causes CPU failure?</title>

      <description>I have tried to install RedHat 8 on two Proliant 5000's and an 1850.  In all cases, rebooting after the install shows that all except the primary CPU have failed.  I have to go into the system utilities and indicate that I have replaced the processors for them to become active again.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
Any ideas?</description>

      <description>We were having the same problem with Debian and the Proliant 5000s. It has to do with the SMP kernel. You can download the i686 smp 2.4 kernel from RedHat. What you need to do is install the SMP kernel and then repoint LILO to use it instead (at least that is my understanding of it). I haven't tried to install a 5000 myself (yet!) but I plan on using RedHat as well. Our admin that succeeded is no longer with our company and I need to work it out for myself. Let me know how you make out. There is a pretty good site that has a lot of useful info:&lt;BR /&gt;

      <description>How do you guys reset the CPUs without the SmartStart disks?&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
My 5000R now has RH 8.0 but one of the failed installs now keeps 3 of 4 CPUs from starting.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
Already tried F10, it says there are no utilities installed on the system or something similar, press any key to continue.  Pressing a key results in booting of course.&lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
