Hello,

I have an old E45 Netserver. Now I changed the BIOS Battery.
After I started the server the following error occured:

0021-98: PCI Error

I cleared the CMOS, but the error is permanent.

In the server are 4 PCI-Cards.

Now I don't know, what I can do.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks
Kai Jannaschk

Of course, the error means that you have a problem with a PCI device, but now you have to figure out which one (it is probably a PCI card, but it might be the PCI controller).

The system error codes for this system can be found here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=45934&prodTypeId=15351&objectID=lpn12573

That page says this about error "0021":

"A configuration problem has occurred with a PCI device.
1) Clear the PCI configuration with the CMOS status switch.
2) Use the Setup program to manually configure the PCI devices.
3) Disable any unused function, such as I/O ports or IDE controllers.
4) Start the Operating System and let it update the PCI configuration"

But, I would try removing all PCI cards to see if the error goes away. If it doesn't, then you have a problem with the PCI controller. If it does go away, then one of your PCI cards is to blame.

Replace the cards one at a time, restarting the system after each addition. You should be able to isolate the problem this way.

Alicia
