Hi all,

Few days ago I downloaded the latest BIOS version 4.06.26PN for my NetServer E60 from HP.com, after I upgraded it and reboot the system, two error messages comes up at the end of POST:

0B00-0A: Missing microcode update data block for microprocessor
0B01-0A: Missing microcode update data block for microprocessor

I tried to take away the CPU on the secondary slot and upgraded it again but the error still exists. Later I got an older BIOS version 4.06.25PN but it didn't help.

The E60 is running with 2 pieces of Pentium II 400MHz CPUs, the BIOS version I've been using before upgrading was 4.06.13. It has been running for several years without any problem...

Does any one get any idea? Also I would like to try the previous BIOS version if any one have it. please help, thank you very much.

Regards,

Ivan Lai

What System BIOS version are you looking for - to downgrade to? Were you able to flash the BIOS to 4.06.25PN?
Since the existing System BIOS is so old, I would recommend trying to update in steps.
Do you have non-HP processors installed?

thx for your reply

I've flashed the BIOS to version 4.06.25 successfully but the error of missing microcode is still there. Since the previous version of BIOS I was using is 4.06.13, I just want to try a BIOS version earlier than 4.06.26 to see whether it works or not. However I can't find one in hp.com.

Is there any other method to solve the problem?

Also my CPUs came with my Netserver when I bought it.

Regards

Ivan Lai

If the Netserver is otherwise working ok, I would not recommend downgrading the System BIOS - this could create problems. I do understand you were running at the much older BIOS rev, but for any future upgrades you should have the most current System BIOS.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm not sure if missing microcode would affect the operation of the server, also I have to press F1 key after POST to continue the startup of the system.

Other HP customers have reported the microcode error - and have worked with the server without any apparent problems. I do understand the F1 prompt is a nuisance, but would still recommend not changing the System BIOS. Trying to do so might result in a non-working server.
I have this problem too, but I am using two Piii 700mhz processors. I think Windows (XP and 2003 at least) will look after the microcode updates. If you look in device mananger under System Devices there is an entry for Microcode Update Device, which looks after this in Windows. And I've been running my box for about 6 months with no problems what so ever.
