Not supported means that HP has attempted to upgrade and were unhappy with the results, so they don't support it. What those results are, are unknown.

The Netraid controller is not supported in win2k because HP never released a driver for the controller.

Is there any issues with upgrading from NT4 to W2k server that I should be aware of before I get to it ? I already upgraded my NetServer LD pro but I have yet to upgrade a NetServer LC II and a NetServer E 45.

Thanks !

HP does not support the upgrade from NT to win2k. The only thing I can tell you is to make sure you do not have the classic netraid, netraid-1, mylex or 4m netraid controller in any of these systems, as they don't work to well with either win2k or the upgrade.

The original NetRAID (D4943A) and NetRAID-1 (as well as the HP Mylex controllers) are not supported under Windows 2000.
Do you know if NT was installed with the HP Navigator CD?
The HP Knowledgebase has documents concerning upgrades from NT to Windows 2000. I recommend the following:

hp566: Video Trident 9000i driver support for Windows 2000 Server

IS7333: HP NetRAID & NetRAID-1 - Not Supported under Windows 2000

IS9880: HP Netservers - Upgrading Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 Fails if HP Navigator's Automated NOS Installation for NT 4.0 was Performed

Does "not supported" means that it's buggy, that it won't work at all or just that HP doesn't support it ? There is a NetRAID controller in the LC II. What are the problems I could encounter with w2k ?

Also, I can't find those knowledge base docs you pointed out. Are they still there or is it just me who can't find it ?

Thanks !

Sorry, I bet you looked in the ITRC Knowledgebase for these Netserver articles. For Netserver stuff, need to go to this web site:

There is also an option on this web page to search by the document id number.

Other users have successfully installed the OS Windows 2000 using the methods presented in the Link above and successive links.
2 methods have been proven to work. First method is describe to boot from the 4 Win 2000 floppies and use the "load additional drives and select a driver manually for the AMI MegaRAID Ultra 428 Enterprise 1200(basically the same card as the Netraid just rebranded by HP). THis is the most simple but continues to limit your Hot Swap Drive choices to HP's old drives because of the firmware and the non-LVD support.
THe second method requires the flashing of the firmware with that available from AMI to support Win 2000. then load as normal. THis method again has been proven by users of this discussion group. This method has the advantage of added LVD support and use of currently available drives like our 36 and 72 GB hot swap drive. You can find the firmware for AMI MegaRAID Enterprise 1200(428), Firmware Release
In response to the last post made regarding the classic NetRAID controller and w2k. I have 2 of them and have flashed both of them to the AMI uf82-166 firmware, since it is based on the AMI MegaRAID 428. It works great and actually, one additional bonus that I noticed (above the drive sizes, LVD support, etc) is that on both of my 3 channel controllers, channel 0 is now usable. With the HP NetRAID firmware, for some reason I could not use channel 0. It would always start to detect at channel 1.

Some of the older DELL Perc raid controllers are also based on the AMI 428 controller, I flashed that one as well and it works great, in a Dell 4200 w/ w2k.

I know it's a late posting, but it's mainly FYI.
George, I currently try to install Windows 2000 Server on an Netserver LH Pro having this Netraid-Controller. I flashed the Bios and tried to Install Windows 2000 Server from 4 Installation disks. I jumped via F6 and added the windows 2000 driver manually, which I downloaded from the American Megatrend Site.

Windows freezed after the 4 th disk during the startup process.

The flashed Netraid controller worked very well if I install windows NT 4.0.
Do you have an idea, what??s going wrong in the installation process of Windows 2000.
Any hints will be helpful and are greatly appreciated.
