I've seen it happen when I paste, the cursor jumps to the top. Starting last weekend.

I haven't chnged my firefox version but I still thought I was my fault.

Just now when I pasted, it seems to work fine.

Now it failed, you have to paste at the top, then try to type, with the assumption you're going add after.

When I write a reply and press return, the cursor jumps to the top of the text box and inserts a new line at the top of my text.

Not always, but very often.

What's wrong?

Does this happen before you write any text, or at the end of a completed sentence or paragraph? Are there any other applications open that could be contributing to this behavior, or is the Community the only window open at the time? It's a behavior I have not experienced, but I will ask my team if anyone else has.

I've seen that, too, but I thought that it might be my fault. I'm
not sure how to reproduce it.

Something different (but possibly related) bothers me. I normally
edit a posting in an xterm, and then copy+paste text from there into
this forum's "Body" box. The quirk is that successive copy+paste lines
are closer vertically than manually entered lines. For example:

Copy+paste line 1
Copy+paste line 2
Copy+paste line 3

Manually typed line 1

Manually typed line 2

Manually typed line 3

I'm mystified by this difference. In each case, arrow keys move the
cursor from line to line, not stopping at what look like the
intermediate blank lines.

Another annoyance is the way that with copy+paste, leading spaces on
a line are eliminated, and multiple consecutive spaces elsewhere are
reduced to a single space. I'd prefer to have my formatting left as
specified by me. What the world needs now is less JavaScript?

I it happens only if I paste some text, then press return - the cursor jumps at the begiining of this text box and inserts a mew line at the top.

Try it yourself - write some words, press return, past a link, press return.

I'm using firefox 45.0, if that matters, but this happens since a few weeks.

> [...] paste some text, then press return [...]

Ah. That's it. Paste alone puts the (now invisible) cursor at the
top of the Body box; then hitting Return puts the blank line at the top
instead of after the pasted text. Because the cursor vanishes after
Paste, the victim might believe that it's where he expects, that is, at
the end of the pasted text. But, apparently, it's at the top.

So, the work-around would seem to be remembering to click somewhere
after every Paste, so that you get a visible cursor in some known
location. Great software.

> I'm using firefox 45.0 [...]

   Same here, on a Mac.

To answer the question on why lines are spaced more closely when copied, I pulled out the source for the following text:

Copy+paste line 1
Copy+paste line 2
Copy+paste line 3

Manually typed line 1

Manually typed line 2

Manually typed line 3

The source code is

Copy+paste line 1
Copy+paste line 2
Copy+paste line 3

Manually typed line 1

Manually typed line 2

Manually typed line 3

The first three lines were pasted. from the earlier reply. Because the original text was pasted into the editor, it was treated as one block of text with line breaks. The individually typed lines are each a discrete paragraph. If you do this exercise in Microsoft Word (R), you will see that it does the same thing. This is typical for rich text editors.

By design, HTML reduces all stadard spaces (including returns) to single spaces. While it is not exactly pre-formatted text, the Blockquote function (the big double quote) in the rich text editor can be used.

Cursor placement testing in IE 11, Chrome and Firefox had the cursor visible at the end of the paste block. We will continue to monitor.

I hope this helps,
Warren_Admin, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Community Manager
Any personal opinions expressed are mine, and should not be interpreted as official statements on behalf of Hewlett Packard Enterprise
