Is it possible to attach disks from one cluster to another cluster?

We are testing the ability in AWS to remove instances hosting HPE Ezmeral Software and reconnecting the EBS-volumes to a new cluster preserving the data. Is this possible?

I used the

maprcli disk add

feature and the old disks added just fine to the new cluster. Trouble is none of the old data was visible. It's as though disk add assumes the disks are empty.

We of course would love to be able to spin up a new cluster, attach old volumes and keep running rather than having to reload data.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your query. Unfortunately, thats not achievable due to below reason:

1. Once disk added to a cluster node, Storage Pools needs to be created on top of such disks in order to involve them to the cluster activities. During this process, disks got formatted, that means, existing data wipe out completely.

2. Since, data stored in chunks, moving disks can only copying partial data(not useful).

3. Another challenge is that, CLDB of target cluster won’t recognize the data as its not holding meta data about data stored on such disks.

The better approach is to copy data between clusters using available utilities, for eg: mirror, replication or distcp.
