Dear HPE Team.

When I try to create a virtual machine from an “ISO” image, I get an error message saying that the image is not in qcow2 format and cannot create the virtual machine.

If the datastore is NFS, is there any limitation such as not being able to create a virtual machine from an “ISO” image?

There are no limitations to create a VM from an ISO. I just did a test myself on a 8.0.5 environment.

One thing to note is that you need to wait for the ISO upload to complete to the NFS share. You can follow the upload process under Library - Virtual Images. The status needs to be "active".

I noticed this upload of ISO to NFS share can be rather slow. So make sure to verify the status.
