Hello together,

i want to deploy a new instance, but get this error:

Fehler: Error Defining VM via libvirt: /etc/sudoers.d/ceph-smartctl:3:20: wildcards are not allowed in command arguments ceph ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/smartctl -x --json=o /dev/* ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ /etc/sudoers.d/ceph-smartctl:4:20: wildcards are not allowed in command arguments ceph ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/nvme * smart-log-add --json /dev/*

Some hints for me?

I'm using my Copilot Notebook that is based on the documentation. It says this:

That error appears to be coming from the HVM host OS, not from VM Essentials itself.

The key part is:

/etc/sudoers.d/ceph-smartctl
wildcards are not allowed in command arguments

I would validate the sudoers configuration on the affected host:

sudo visudo -c

and inspect:

/etc/sudoers.d/ceph-smartctl

The VM definition is failing because sudo is rejecting entries in that file before libvirt can complete the operation.

Can you share your VM Essentials version, Ubuntu version, and the contents of /etc/sudoers.d/ceph-smartctl? At this point, the error points to host-level sudoers validation rather than a VM Essentials provisioning setting.
