AF5000 Decommission

Hi guys,

We are planning to decommission our AF5000 unit as its out of support. Are there any guides to follow for this procedure? Is there anything to lookout for when decommissioning? Will I need to engage HPE support for assistance with this?

I think HPE Financial services also take care of decomisioning and retiring of products.

Hi,
HPE Nimble does not need to take decommissioned or scrapped Arrays back and does not provide hardware disposal service.

However, If you would like to go for a secure wipe/data erasure, please create a support case, we can provide a sanitization key, which needs to be entered to kick off data erasure.

Hi Subash,

Maybe I didn't really explain proprly what i am planning to achieve but I have attached pictures now.

I currently have a cluster that consists of AF5000 and HF-40 with expansion shelves. The AF5000 is currently the Group Leader and since its out of support, I want to remove it from the Group and Have HF-40 remain.

So my question therefore is:

1, Can I just select the "default" array and go to Pool Actions and "Delete"?

2, Do I need to engage HPE support to assist to remove this on the Infosight or will this be automatically done after the process on my first question?

Hi @TheeLaz
There are few steps involved here and you are almost there. This is a support assisted procedure, you may call us on support 24/7 to engage an engineer who can get in to zoom session right away. Don' worry about support expiry of AF5000, as long as the HF array has valid contract, should be good.

Assuming you have already migrated data from from the AF5000, first step is to switch the default pool role over to the backup leader. (HF40 in this case)
Once done, we will have to change the group leader to HF40, it is realy quick, usually takes couple of minutes.
At this moment, we should be good to delete the pool and evict old AF5000 from the group.
Please note, once the old array is removed from group, you no longer can access via mgt IP, it needs serial console access to do the re-setup.
Infosight removal will be automatically done.
