I agree. We have several Deskpros we still use for testing and the identification is never easy... you do have to figure out the 6 thing. They used to have an identification utility, but they removed it.......the new one doesn't pick up these pc's

Where can I get the latest BIOS/ROMPAQ for this compaq deskpro?

I am trying to install a Linksys Wireless NIC in this PII 400MHz machine, and it will not boot with it installed. Works fine with the compaq NIC.

Thanks you very much sir. This 686T3 is the correct ROM family as shown in the setup screen. I have no idea how to properly identify and find things on this site. I was looking all day yesterday, and could not find this. Thanks again

Go to:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?cc=us

Put in Deskpro en and check the appropriate button for software or support.

The next page will bring up a list of deskpro en PCs. Yours is a 400 and for some unknown reason they add a 6 in front and refer to it as a 6400. The 6400C is the Celeron version. Stupidly when you select the 6400 it will take you to the old Compaq page where you have to select it again. (Can we say lazy programers?). After that it is pretty simple.

Ron
