Storage: How do you manage it?

I'm with the Storage Management Operation in Ft. Collins and would like to hear
about best practices and/or software people use to manage their growing storage
needs. Is anyone using SAN technology? If so, how do you manage it?

Jeff,

Storage Management is my main focus and concern at present. With the huge scale of capacity that we now manage, we need a way to manage storage efficiently from a cohesive storage management suite. This, unfortunately, doesn't exist.

We've been attempting to design a SAN but have had problems with reliability during backups/restores, even though we've avoided FC-AL (and chosen Fabric)....
