HPE ML30 and Windows Home Server

Just purchased an ML30 to replace my aging EX495 system. Trying to load Windows Home Server 2011 and the DVD drive will not recognize the WHS 2011 installation disc. It lists the CD name, but then responds that it is an unrecognized CD.

Although I do not see WHS 2011 on the supported software list, I am hoping it can be installed anyway. Can anyone provide a method or suggest a workaround to install this OS, please?

WHS 2011 was indeed the last of the home server generation. But my current EX495 is also aging hardware and the ML30 seems like a cost effective replacement.

The new server software is overkill for my home environment as well as being overpriced for a home system. I'm just attempting to upgrade my WHS 2011 installation to more current hardware.

I do not understand what you mean by "boot another PC from?". Can you explain?

just test if the cd is still readable or is bad.

not sure if this server supports UEFI. if yes, try a legacy boot mode.

Server does support UEFI and at your suggestion (although it took some thrashing around the BIOS to find), I did attempt a legacy boot.. The CD is readable and the boot from the CD was successful. However, now it hangs on the WHS 2011 opening screen. It shows me the two options: New Install the CD and Repair previous installation. I cannot select either and there are no further error messages. I cannot see any CD or HD activity, it simply remains frozen until I turn the machine off.

Thanks for the help. You got me farther than I was.

Now I'm wondering if the hardware is not compatible with WHS2011. (or vice-versa)

If you have any further ideas, please let me know.
