I find that the system management homepage provides quite a lot information and some event notifications that can come in handy and they will help when it comes to troubleshooting. The array configuration utility and array diagnostic utility should also come in handy for that purpose.

Hello everyone,

I just installed Windows 2008 EE on a HP DL380 Server, which will be a file server. The storage of the Server is a RAID5 (4x300GB) controlled by P400.

I set up the RAID through the BIOS and formattted it through Windows. Other than for monitoring reasons, is it necessary to install the HP Array Utilities? Is there a way to improve performance through the utilities?

The server will hold the role of a file server. I am thinking of just using some Windows file shares and nothing more. Would you recommend something else that would improve perfomance or ease of administration?

Thank you.

I suggest to install whole Proliant support pack (PSP)
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/psp/index.html

It's contain HP Array Utility as well
With HP array utility you can , for example, change read/write ratio of controller cache.
And, PSP contain last drivers - it is very important for server stability
