I'm the treasurer and default IT department of a small charity. Our (rather old) HP MediaSmart server is not compatible w/ computers running Windows 10. We're considering buying an HP Proliant Microserver Gen10. We can also buy Windows Server 2019 fairly cheaply because we're a charity. "Essentials" sounds like it's more suitable to the size of our operation, but will it work for the server we have in mind? Would "Standard" be a better bet?

Hi RosieE2L,

Thanks for posting your query in HPE community !

Currently Proliant Microserver Gen 10 is certified to run Windows Server 2016.

Essentials edition of the server is designed to support maximum of 25 Users & 50 devices in AD, If this suits your purpose then you can go ahead with Essentials otherwise Standard Edition would be better choice.

You can view the supported operating systems on variety of HPE servers here

HPE Servers Support & Certification Matrices

https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/windows.aspx#.XBtlP1UzbPY

Hope this helps.

Regards,

The problem is that I can't buy Windows Server Essentials *2016* any longer.
What's being sold now at TechSoup Canada - a source for charities to buy
software cheaply - is the 2019 version. I'm not asking if 2019 is
certified, I'm asking if anyone's tried it and did it work. Also, it is not
certified because the certification program tried it and it flunked? Or is
it on a list of combinations that still need to be tested? Or is HP planning
to come out with Gen11 soon, so they haven't bothered testing Gen10?
