I have a DL380 Gen 10. On it is Hyper V server 2019 installed

Now I'm trying to install Windows Server 2019 in a generation 2 VM.

When booting an .iso image an error screen is shown.

"Windows boot manager"

Info: The Boot Configuration Data for you PC is missing or contains errors.

After searching I found a solutions on the HPE website:

Run the following command on Windows Server 2019
Reg Add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Virtualization” /v BiosLockString /t
REG_SZ /d “Hewlett Packard Enterprise ”

Note
Ensure there are 6 blank spaces after “Hewlett Packard Enterprise” and the quotation mark. If prompted to overwrite the registry string, select Yes.

This solution is not working.

I've tried the solutions for Server 2012 and Server 2016, but they also don't work.

Installing on a generation 1 VM works fine when using a virtual IDE drive and connecting the physical DVD.

Also using non-branded software poses no problem.

Anyone has a solutions for this problem?

Hi PhilippeB1,

HPE branded ISO's are customized to work with specific hardware , Hyper-V Gen2 VM has its own set of HW settings.

The registry solution mentioned works only if you get specific error that the "operating system is not supported".

For the Gen 2 VM , If not already tried you may want to give a try by disabling secure boot option in Hyper V security settings and see if that helps to boot the ISO

Regards,

How about enabling the Secure Boot and then just change the boot order?

Maybe first priority is set to CD/ROM instead of .vdhx?
