Assume you have tried removing all of your USB connections (maybe uninstall them too) before trying to remove and reinstall the USB?

Backup your registry and go look with regedit for

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\enum\USB

You will find several keys under this key. Expand each as much as possible and check the Device Parameters\SymbolicName on each.

In each case it should look like this:

\??\USB#Vid_04e6&Pid_0003#5&b114931&0&1#{a5dcbf10-6530-11d2-901f-00c04fb951ed}

with no spaces. Numbers will vary but should start with \??\USB

There should only be one SymbolicName and one Default tho some old instances will have FailReasonID.

IF you are feeling really brave you can delete the whole USB key and see if it will reinstall everything for you.

Ron
