Sounds to me like you've got either a dodgey keyboard, or a dodgey PS2 controller on your main board.

Have you tried different keyboards? Have you tried this keyboard with another machine?

I assume you're using X? If so, have you just tried using the shell to see if the same behaviour occurs?

The keyboard will intermittently lock up the q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p keys. Requires a full shutdown and restart to use keys again. Any advice or driver recommendations?

Top row hangs intermittently

question: The keyboard will intermittently lock up the q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p keys. Requires a full shutdown and restart to use keys again. Any advice or driver recommendations? This is on a HP Pavilion N5150 Notebook, runnining WinMe. It does seem to happen after the notebook has been running awhile (30 Minutes+).

Odds are that your keyboard is dying. You can plug a keyboard into the back of your PC and see if that one has the same problem. If it does then:

http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix31699.html

has new drivers and BIOS for your PC.

Also it never hurts to visit:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and let them scan your system for upgrades you might need.

Ron

I have this same problem and would like to know if you ever found the solution or if anyone else can help me...this just started happening yesterday, and I have no idea why. Even shutdown/restart does not help the situation. Also my right shift key and the up arrow key are both out.
