You just need to turn off the bug, I mean feature by customizing your start menu.

Right click on Start...select customize button next to start menu... Advanced... uncheck highlight new programs.

Many have exprienced the same symptoms and turning it off kills the annoyance.

The 'Raid???

When I go into the Start menu, the balloon for "New programs installed" appears sporadically with the same programs highlighted as new, eventhough the programs were installed a while ago and have been used. I've tried opening all of the applications listed as new and I've also tried reinstalling them as well as installing the latest BIOS for my Compaq Evo n610c, but nothing seems to get rid of this balloon. I'm running Windows XP Pro

Bryan, did you check your PC for viruses using latest AV definitions? :o(
Eugeny

This sounds like an XP issue and not a BIOS issue. Have you been to

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

recently? Let them scan your system and tell you what files need to be updated. You might get lucky.

Ron

Yes, I've already tried updating my Norton Antivirus definition files and running it again, but found no viruses. I've also updated all of the latest Microsoft XP files/drivers using the Microsoft update system scan, but still no luck.
