Who made your box? Is the sound integrated on the motherboard? If so then you need to visit the website for the box maker. They may have done some funky stuff with the driver so that you have to use theirs.

I would think you would fry something else long before you got to the sound card.

Ron

I am stranded in a village in the mountains in Turkey and the firm who I bought the box from only speak turkish(a friend bought it).

Yes the sound is onboard. I had it working before with a driver supplied to me by this firm? Now the same driver is freezing the system. So how come it don't work no more?

Should I try installing something in a different order?

Michael:

You could try looking in Device Manager to see what resources (IRQ) the sound is sharing and try to eliminate the conflict.

I would certainly download/install the latest 4-in-1 drivers from VIA's website: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2#4in1

The latest audio driver from MSI (motherboard mfgr) is dates Nov. 7, 2002 and available at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=3&CHIP=3&ID=1

I believe the latest BIOS is at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=320&NAME=MS-6380E
but DOUBLE CHECK that this IS the correct link.

Good luck!

Roger
