Also, you should try upgrading your BIOS. I bought 2 sticks of 256megs and it wouldn't work either until I upgraded my BIOS.

Hi, I have bought a stick of 256mb sdram for my HP 6740C and my computer can't recognize it for some reason. I have checked the specs for my computer and the ram should work. If anyone know what the problem might be please let me know by posting or emailing me. Thankx, viper_r12@yahoo.com

HP 6740C Specs - http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bph05748
The ram I bought - http://www.avalonsoftware.com/viewproduct.asp?pid=1252

You have installed 1 stick by 256Mb but some computers works with couple of stick, then 2 stick of 64Mb or 2 stick of 256Mb.
Try with 2 stick!
HTH
Bruno

Some brands work...others not. Thus best to buy new with "Money Back" guarantee....hope that is the case here.

Sdram, CasLatency 2, PC100, non parity max is 256 per slot 2 slots total 512

Take your OEM stick of 64mb out entirely and try it.

Does your new 256 have chips on both sides...or just one (?) ...believe the ad said one side...how does this compare to the OEM stick?

Try another brand (www.crucial.com yes I know it's more money)....or a generic like KByte.

Lotsa fun
