You'll need third party tool to try, e.g. http://www.active-undelete.com/
It should work assuming that the system did not overwrite the space previously occupied by the now deleted files.
I do not know which o.s. you have, but generally in windows exist the basket-icon on the desktop that it allows the recovery of the files canceled. If the basket has been emptied it not works then you use software.
HTH
Bruno

That auto recovery software is your best bet and it is best not to use the shift del function unless you are sure that you don't want it back (depending on the operating system there is also an un-del function in DOS). There is also software available to restore formatted hard drives as well which can also be a useful tool to keep in your arsenal (PowerQuest(R)
Lost & Found(TM).)
I would check if the software works without restarting the system first, just because there is a greater chance to overwrite your deleted data during the shutdown and startup phase. I don't know if this one would work (and I hope I won't need to check ;-) but very often, even if the installers ask for a reboot, it is not really necessary...

I think they do have a 30-day trialware version. Haven't checked lately.

Hedda Lora
Hi TG,

undelete installation? I hope, it is not so big or you installed it on another drive otherwise you may overwrite the to be recovered files with the undelete software. :-(
BTW, you forgot to mention, what os you are running. In win9x it would be best to boot from floppy.

greetings,

Michael
