hp pavillion 7960 memory upgrade

I upgraded the memory before using pny 128mb chip pc800 nonecc the system currently runs 384mb the original 128mb plus the 256mb i just bought toshiba 512mb 800 nonecc i took out the original memory of 128mb for a total of 768mb rdram memory when i start the computer it has problems it keeps saying system memory very low i took out all memory except the toshiba 512mb and system works fine! specs say system can handle up to 2gb of memory what is wrong with the system?

I have found this (series 9700 - 9780).
Nothing for 7960.
The memory max is 512 Mb (see here)

Try to enable the memory by BIOS settings
The BIOS Setup program initially displays the Main Menu screen. In each screen, there are options for modifying the system configuration.

Menu Options
Description

Main
Set up and modify basic options such as time, date, disk drives, and hard drives. Check the amount of system memory and extended memory here.

These are the parameters (or similar)
Installed Memory
Memory Bank 0
Memory Bank 1

(Use the LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys to make a selection, and then press the ENTER key).

Exit
Save or discard changes.

What os do you have?
Your PC support 2Gb of RAM (PC600 not PC800) but only 512Mb. See here:

Hi,

If I assume that you are running Windows 98, or WinME;
Lower versions of Windows have problems with using memory over 512MB. You can read about the Windows memory bug and find the simple fix at the bottom of the page here.
