my keyboard freezes after a few seconds of inactivity. I need to type the first key twice to wake it up" I am running Windows ME, and this does not seem to happen if I start in safe mode, so I think its related to the ME program.

What PC? Is the keyboard the standard PS-2 keyboard with a mini-DIN connector or a fullsize DIN or is it builtin to a laptop or perhaps attached via USB?

Open the Control Panel and double click on the Keyboard icon then choose the Hardware tab. Does it say Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft PS-2 Keyboard as the first entry?

Open the Accessibility Options and make sure you do not have Sticky Keys or Filter Keys turned on. Go into the advanced options for each and turn everything off.

Finally try to get the latest chipset driver or BIOS from your PC maker. If HP/Compaq go to:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?cc=us

Ron
