Mario:

Here's a link to your system's documentation: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&locale=en_US&docIndexId=179111&taskId=130&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=332798

Everything indicates that there are 2 memory slots in your system. From your photo, it's hard to tell what you have. I would remove the visible piece of memory and see what, if anything, is below it. You must have either a single 512MB piece of memory or (2) 256MB pieces of memory. If you have one 512MB, then you can add whatever you want to the open slot. If you have 2 pieces of 256MB, you will have to remove one to add a 512MB or 1GB piece. Did you check the pricing on the Kingston website (I already posted the link in a previous message)?
An alternative would be to try and find a deal on eBay or elsewhere on the internet.

Roger

Hi,

I have installed 512Mb in my Laptop, and now I would like to increase to 1Gb. As I'm not an expert, I have the following questions:

Which type of memory should I buy?
How much can it cost?
Any ideas where to buy it? preferably in Germany.

Many thanks,

M
Mario, greetings !

Do you know which memory sticks you have installed? As far as I know the nx7000 has 2 slots which can be populated as follows:-

HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7000 thin and wide

Standard Memory
0-MB of memory on system board,
2 Slots total
1-128-MB DIMM installed in Slot 1
1-Additional open Memory Slot

Memory Slot 1 Slot 2
128 MB
128 MB Empty

Standard Memory Plus Optional Memory
Support for up to 2048-MB of DDR SDRAM memory is available with the installation of optional DDR SDRAM Memory Kits.

Memory Slot 1 Slot 2
128 MB 128 MB --
256 MB 256 MB --
384 MB 256 MB 128 MB
512 MB 512 MB --
768 MB 512 MB 256 MB
1024 MB 512 MB 512 MB
1024 MB 1024 MB --
2048 MB
1024 MB 1024 MB

NOTE: This chart does not represent all possible memory configurations. Due to the non-industry standard nature of some third-party memory modules, we strongly recommend using only Compaq branded memory modules to ensure compatibility.
Following are memory options available from Compaq:
1024-MB (266 MHz DDR SDRAM Memory Upgrade 314114-B25

512-MB (266 MHz) DDR SDRAM Memory Upgrade 269087-B25

256-MB (266 MHz) DDR SDRAM Memory Upgrade 269086-B25

128-MB (266 MHz) DDR SDRAM Memory Upgrade 269085-B25

You do not mention what applications & Operating System: 512Mb is comforatbel for most things but you could go to 1Gb happily (I'd start there). If you have a single 512Mb stick in th laptop then buy another, identical from HP/Compaq.. If feeling brave buy upgrades from a GOOD supplier like Crucial who will tell you what types of their memory will fit your machine

I think the HP warranty probably is only valid with HP memory installed...

I suggest you contact whoever you bought your machine from & ask what prices he would sell upgrades.

Hope that helps #

Eric

Many thanks for your answers. Defintelly this is a forum, where you can always find plenty of information.

Coming back to the issue:
1. In my first mail I wrote that "I have installed 512Mb". That was a mistake due my poor English, the laptop came with 512Mb installed.

2. I openned the back part of my laptop, and there's just 1 memory modul. I see no space for other moduls. Or, where do I install them? (please have a look at the picture)

3. Thanks for the info about where to buy the moduls. What do you think about something like 150Euros for a 512Mb Kingstown modul?

M

mmm,

I think that there must be another slot, because I found this wherever I look for information:
--------------
System Memory Configuration
Standard Memory: 256MB (Removable)
512MB (Removable)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Expansion: 2 Sockets
-----------------
On the other hand, the prices for a 1GB modul, are quite above my possibilities:
EUR 600-700
